That’s why we’re proud to assist eligible homeowners and tenants in applying for free window or portable air conditioning units through official New York State programs — at no cost to you.

Air Conditioning Assistance Benefit

New York State offers free air conditioners and installation to income-eligible households who are especially vulnerable to heat.

You may qualify if:

  • You meet income guidelines

  • Medical diagnosis of persistant asthma

  • You have a child under 6, a senior over 60, or someone with a documented medical condition affected by heat

  • Your home lacks a working AC, or your unit is over 5 years old

Program benefits include:

  • One AC unit or fan per household

  • First-come, first-served basis (as of April 15, 2025)
